A Letter from Matteo: Welcome to Chapter One

I’ve been sitting with this letter for a while now. Not because I didn’t know what to say — but because I wanted to make sure I meant every word of it.

Welcome to KND Brand. Or maybe, welcome back — depending on how long you’ve been watching.

Why I’m Starting Over

KND didn’t begin as a brand. It began as a feeling. A quiet conviction that the things we wear should mean something — that a hoodie, a tee, or a cap shouldn’t just fill a drawer. It should carry a story. Your story, or at least the beginning of one.

For a long time, I tried to build that in the way most brands do: move fast, scale up, push volume. Somewhere in that process, the feeling got lost. The product was there. The meaning wasn’t.

So I stopped. I stepped back. And I started over — this time, the right way.

Small Batches, on Purpose

Chapter One of KND is built around a simple principle: less, but better.

I don’t want to drop hundreds of units hoping something sticks. I want to make small, deliberate batches — pieces I’ve thought about, tested, and genuinely believe in before they ever reach you. When something sells out, it’s gone. That’s not a marketing trick. That’s the point.

Small batches help me stay close to the work. They mean every piece that ships had a reason to exist. They mean you’re not buying something mass-produced and forgotten — you’re getting something made with intention from the very beginning.

It’s slower. It’s harder. And it’s exactly how I want to do this.

What BELIEVE Actually Means

You’ll see the word BELIEVE woven into KND — on product, in the language, and in the way I talk about what I’m building. I want to be honest about what that means, because it’s not just a slogan.

BELIEVE is a reminder. It’s the thing I had to come back to when I almost walked away from this entirely. It’s what I want every person who wears KND to carry with them — not as a statement to the world, but as a quiet anchor for themselves.

Believe in the work you’re doing, even when it’s not recognized yet. Believe in the version of yourself you’re still becoming. Believe that the small, consistent choices — the ones nobody sees — are the ones that actually build something real.

That’s what KND is about. That’s what BELIEVE means.

San Diego, the Ocean, and Where This All Lives

I’m based in San Diego, and this place shapes everything about how I see the world. The surf culture here — the early mornings, the patience, the respect for something bigger than yourself — runs through the DNA of KND in ways I’m still discovering.

There’s something about being near the water that strips everything back to what matters. You can’t fake it out there. You either show up or you don’t. You either put in the time or the wave passes you by.

That’s the energy I want KND to carry.

Grounded. Unhurried. Real.
